Where is this island?

Located in the Southern Gulf of Thailand, Koh Phangan belongs to the Surat Thani province. It's a huge island that is today a popular destination among both domestic and foreign travellers. Thanks to world-class resorts in Koh Phangan the likes of Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas, the area offers the best of accommodation and dining options that are authentic and mind-blowing.

Getting to Koh Phangan by Plane

Be it from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Hong Kong, or Singapore, Bangkok Airways operates flights to the Koh Samui Airport. You will have to fly to the Koh Samui Airport first, and then take a boat to get to Koh Phangan. Make sure you plan your timing because the last boat leaves at 6.30 pm. If you arrive at Koh Samui after that, you will have to take a private speed boat and this will most likely cost you more. If flying to Koh Samui looks like an expensive option, you may also consider flying to the Surat Thani International Airport on a budget airline and then take a ferry ride to Koh Phangan. This ferry ride will take about 5 hours, but this will be a cost-effective option for you.

Take a bus to Koh Phangan from Bangkok

This tip is for the backpackers out there! Flights will not be the ideal option for you because you've got to save money. You may take an overnight bus from Bangkok to reach Koh Phangan. The bus will take 10-12 hours to reach Surat Thani and then from Surat Thani to Koh Phangan, you may take a ferry ride. If you opt for this option, make sure you look for tour companies who sell packages in which both the bus ride and the ferry services are included at a price of around $20.

Take a train to Koh Phangan from Bangkok

If you are not so much into overnight bus rides, this option is for you. Take a train from Bangkok to Koh Phangan which will take about 15 hours in total. This ride will be long and right after the train ride, you'll have to get a bus ride and also a ferry ride to finally reach the paradise island.

Getting around the island

Once you arrive at Koh Phangan, your next issue will be about domestic transportation. As mentioned earlier, this island is a huge one, so exploring it on foot or two wheels (bicycles) will indeed be a difficult task. You may go for an alternative option such as scooters, songthaew, or long-tail boats to go around the island, and all these options will provide great moments.
