How to spend 48 Hours in Koh Samui – The best way to get the most of the island!

Full of lush, dense forests, immaculate beaches, food, adventure and entertainment. There is something to please everyone here. If you have limited time on your hands, here is the way to experience the island at its best.

Visit the temples

Any trip to Thailand or its islands won’t be complete if you don’t visit their beautiful temples. The big Buddha is the most well-known in Koh Samui. Next, you can go to Wat Phra Yai. Both temples are located in Bophut. Wat Plai Laem is a massive temple with large grounds. Here you can get to see sculptures of Guanyin who is a bodhisattva who is a being aspiring to be a future Buddha in the Mahayana tradition. All the temple exploration will leave you famished. You can go to Mae Nam Village for a nice lunch and rejuvenate yourself for the next adventure.

There are quite a few Samui resortsso you won’t have to worry about accommodation, and this area is generally a great place to stay. You can find many nice resorts such as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, around this region of Bophut and its surroundings.

Na Mung Waterfalls

These waterfalls are approximately an hour away from the Big Buddha temple. You won’t find any public transport to visit the waterfalls, so you may have to arrange you’re own taxi or hire a scooter for the journey. The ideal times to visit is between September to November, which is during the rainy season. Na Mung 1 has a gorgeous natural pool that you can swim in, however it can get crowded as it is the most popular of the two waterfalls. If you want some seclusion walk uphill for another 30 minutes to encounter Na Mung 2. These waterfalls are an excellent place to relax away the afternoon.

Street food

For dinner head to a street food tour in Koh Samui. This is the best way to sample a range of delicious Thai cuisine. If you don’t want a guided tour, you can do this yourself. Make sure to sample some of the best dishes, such as papaya salad (Tom Sam), Pad Thai, Yellow chicken rice (Khao Mok Kai), satay, noodle soup (Gwoy Tiao) and rice or noodles with green/red /yellow curry. As for dessert sample the famous mango sticky rice!

Visit the islands

On the next day visit the Ang Thong National Marine Park. It is a group of 42 islands that showcases spectacular limestone mountains and rock monoliths. The spotless beaches will seem like they sprung to life from a postcard! These islands are home to a wide variety of endangered animals, you can opt for a guided tour to discover the park at length. Water sports are also popular here. One can spend the afternoon diving, snorkelling, kayaking or just hiking across the amazing trails. A full-day tour will usually include elements of all these things. So, it is highly recommended if you want to experience everything within a short time. A tour will end around 4.30 and you can be back in Koh Samui before sundown.

Head to Lipa Noi Beach

For your last evening head to the lovely Lipa Noi Beach, or you can go over to Nikki Beach Samui, which is a popular spot among travellers. Both beaches have a very active social scene. So, you can have a beachside dinner and drinks overlooking the beautiful ocean. You may even find a few clubs if you want to dance away your last night in Koh Samui.
