Muscat is the lively capital of Oman. If you're headed to this country, make sure to throw in at least a day at this bustling city on your itinerary. There's a lot you can see and do in Muscat; however, making the most of your time when you only have a day in the capital can be tough. Keep reading for useful information on how best you can make the most of your time in the city as well as some of the must-visit attractions.
Al Mouj
If you're looking for scenic water views and enjoying the good life for a few hours, head on over to Al Mouj. It's located by the water in a part of the capital known as 'The Wave'. In this zone, you can find anything from upscale hotels to golf courses, expensive restaurants, and fashionable cafés. To really enjoy the view, consider getting yourself a chilled frappe and walking along the marina.
Take in the Views from the Corniche
Another great spot where you can enjoy views of the water is at the Muttrah Corniche. Gaze out at the clear waters and listen to the sound of the seagulls. When you've had your outdoor break, head off to the nearby Muttrah Souk for a bout of traditional-style shopping in Muscat.

Why Transport Is Important?
On holiday, transport can add up in terms of both cost and the time it consumes. In a city like Muscat in which buildings and attractions are quite spread out, you'll need to have a proper plan in place concerning transport. This would help you make the most of your one day in the capital, and also help you budget your spending if that's a concern as well.
So, what are the different ways you can get around the city? If you are on a budget, you'll be glad to know that there's a public bus system and that the buses are air-conditioned. The bus route is fairly extensive and will connect you with most of the capital.
If you want to have more control over your mode of conveyance, then you can consider hiring a car or SUV. This would be a good option since you are planning on only setting aside a day to explore Muscat. Not only is it much faster than getting around by bus but it also lets you decide your routes and stops. You can get to exactly where you need to go without wasting time on unnecessary stops. The usual downside to hiring a vehicle is that there tends to be a lack of parking lots near popular attractions and areas of interest such as shopping malls. However, you'll be happy to know that Muscat is pretty good at offering parking lots. So it shouldn't be too hard to find a spot. On the other hand, since you're only in the city for a day, it might be even more time-saving if you just strike up a deal with a local taxi driver to take you around for a fixed fare or at a reasonable hourly rate.
Not comfortable finding a driver and car for hire by yourself? If you're staying at one of the Oman luxury resorts and are willing to pay a premium, just ask the concierge to book you a car. Even if you're coming into the capital for a day from a resort in the mountains, such as Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, you might be able to arrange it with your resort that you keep the hotel car with you so that you can explore Muscat on your own terms. Do be aware, though, that this option could be unimaginably costly.
